Measurement

The first step in the installation process is determining how much space is available and how many stones will be used for traditional walling. For flat surface stones, double the width and height by the number of apertures such as doors or windows. The total amount of space must be covered is indicated in square metres. To estimate corners, measure the vertical corners or the jambs of windows and doors.

Solid foundation

A structurally sound substrate is required after the stone cladding is installed. A brick or concrete base is recommended for your traditional wall cladding.

Prepare the surface

Traditional wall cladding struggles to keep in place on uneven or rough surfaces. Make sure to scratch the surface to balance it out. No contaminating substances on the surface, such as paint, wax, oil, or dirt, must exist. You can clean the surface with a damp cloth or by brushing it. Wait for the traditional wall cladding to dry.

Prepare the stone layout

Lay out a pattern on the ground to create one. Because each stone has a varied thickness or texture, the ground pattern allows for better positioning of pieces depending on size, texture, and colour variation and blending different pieces as needed.

Quality adhesive

Always begin at the corners and work your way to the centre of the wall. A notched trowel is commonly used to apply the adhesive to the back of the stone. Make sure the surface is clean. Apply the glue to the stone evenly and press it against the wall. Using a spirit level, check the horizontal level of the cladding. Remove any extra adhesive using the trowel.

Grouting

After constructing the stone wall, fill the crevices with cement or grout between the stones. This will help to seal and tighten the area around the stone. Allow the grout to cure but not become stiff before striking out. Scrape along the joints with the striking stick to achieve a clean, even appearance for traditional walling.

• To avoid scratches, clear debris regularly.
• Use a soft mop and a pH-neutral cleaner appropriate for the cleaning material.

• Provide soft padding below to protect furniture from being damaged by pulling large objects.
• To avoid dirt accumulation, sweep your traditional wall cladding occasionally. Then, wash with a gentle detergent.
• Use the proper cleansers in wet places, such as showers, to remove mildew and water stains.
• To maintain your traditional wall cladding’s longevity and visual appeal, seek professional advice about sealing them every two to three years.
